100% rating guide
Understand the designation

100% and permanent-and-total are not the same thing

A 100% schedular rating describes the combined evaluation. P&T describes VA's permanent-and-total finding. TDIU and temporary 100% are separate paths that can affect which programs are relevant.

100% schedular

Individual ratings combine to a 100% schedular evaluation under VA math.

Permanent and total

VA has found the total disability permanent. Some dependent and state programs expressly require this designation.

TDIU or temporary 100%

These can pay at the 100% rate but have different criteria and should not be treated as identical to a schedular 100% P&T award.

Review the wording on your VA decision and benefit summary letter, then confirm each program's current rules with the responsible agency. The filters below help keep the designations separate; they do not determine eligibility.
