Alaska Private Employment Hiring Preference

Alaska law allows—but does not require—private employers to give a hiring preference to covered active-duty, furloughed or honorably discharged service members and their spouses or dependent children. It also covers specified spouses and children of members who were active or furloughed when they died. A qualifying child is permanently disabled, under 19, or under 23 and attending a qualifying school full time. Ask the employer whether it offers this preference; it is not an education benefit or a guaranteed job.
