Military Service Credit for Alaska State Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS)
Vested Alaska PERS defined-benefit members in Tiers I–III who were honorably discharged may claim up to five years of qualifying military service, subject to restrictions on credit also used for regular military retirement. The credit increases benefit calculations, not retirement eligibility. Cost is generally 8.5% of annualized vesting-year salary per year for members first eligible after 1986, with different earlier-service rules and interest. Some retirees, deferred vested members and surviving spouses qualify. Use Form 02-1895 and ask DRB about cost and return-to-work exceptions.
An agency must make the actual eligibility decision.
The program is source-verified, but its eligibility rules are not automated in this record.
