Georgia State Employment Veterans’ Hiring Preference

Georgia state hiring rules provide preference to eligible Veterans with qualifying service and discharge documentation. Passing numerically scored entrance exams receive five points, or ten for specified disabled Veterans and eligible spouses or unmarried survivors. Where no numerical exam is used, preference applies when qualifications equal those of the most suitable non-Veteran applicant; it does not guarantee a job. Service-era, disability and documentation rules apply, and ordinary promotion, demotion and transfer are excluded. The rule also provides a separate reduction-in-personnel preference: qualifying wartime Veterans with a Successful Performer or higher rating are protected from layoff or salary reduction before competing non-Veterans, subject to the rule's terms.
