Texas Hazlewood Act Tuition Exemptions for Veterans, Spouses, and Dependent Children
The Hazlewood Act can provide eligible Veterans up to 150 credit hours of tuition and most fee exemptions at Texas public colleges. Veteran eligibility includes a qualifying Texas connection at entry, at least 181 active-duty days excluding initial training, honorable or general-under-honorable discharge, current Texas residence and other program conditions. Legacy transfers use unused hours for one eligible child at a time, generally age25 or younger. Qualifying Texas-resident spouses and children of certain deceased, missing, 100% P&T or individually unemployable Veterans have separate benefits. Federal tuition benefits, academic progress, loan-default and school requirements apply; the college makes the final determination.
An agency must make the actual eligibility decision.
