Texas Homestead Exemption for Surviving Spouses of Veterans Who Died from a PACT Act Qualifying Condition

An unremarried spouse who was married to a Veteran at death may qualify for a full residence-homestead exemption when the Veteran died from a condition or disease presumed service-connected under the PACT Act of 2022 or regulations under that Act. The Veteran’s disability percentage and date of death do not limit this exemption. If the spouse moves, the exemption on a later qualifying homestead is limited to the prior home’s exemption dollar amount. Apply through the local appraisal district; this is not a benefit for every VA presumptive condition.
