Wyoming provides a $6,000 assessed-value property-tax exemption for qualifying Veterans or unremarried surviving spouses, subject to qualifying wartime, campaign or disability status and the state residency rules. The benefit may be applied to property or, when not used on property, to the county vehicle licensing tax.

Burial of Low Income Wyoming Veterans

Wyoming counties provide last-resort burial assistance for Veterans who die in the county without enough resources for necessary funeral expenses and whose discharge was other than dishonorable. The statutory limits are $500 for transportation and $1,500 for burial in a Veterans cemetery. The county verifies service, discharge, financial need and other available benefits before taking responsibility. Current law does not require wartime service.

It covers qualifying minor or legally incapacitated beneficiaries and governs the guardian’s handling of VA-derived funds. A petition, supporting VA findings and court approval are required; age, a disability rating or Veteran status alone does not establish entitlement to guardianship.
