Washington, D.C. Disabled Veterans Homestead Tax Deduction
DC’s Disabled Veterans’ Homestead Deduction reduces assessed value by $445,000 for qualifying service-related VA P&T or payment at 100% due to unemployability. The Veteran must be domiciled in DC, occupy the principal residence, own at least 50%, and meet income rules. For tax year 2026, household 2024 federal AGI must be below $163,500, excluding qualifying tenants. Properties may have no more than five units; cooperatives and specified overlapping tax relief are excluded. Eligible surviving spouses have a separate continuation path.
