Wisconsin Veteran tax-relief overview
Wisconsin provides a refundable credit for eligible Veterans and unremarried surviving spouses for qualifying property taxes paid on their primary Wisconsin dwelling and up to one acre of necessary surrounding land. WDVA certifies service, residency history and qualifying disability or survivor status, including eligible individual-unemployability paths. Special assessments, interest, service charges and business portions do not qualify. Certain renters required by a written agreement to pay property taxes directly to the municipality may also qualify. Obtain WDVA certification and claim the credit on the state income-tax return.
An agency must make the actual eligibility decision.
The program is source-verified, but its eligibility rules are not automated in this record.

Why this result appeared
No personal scenario was used. This neutral catalog view does not imply that you qualify.
Manual requirements
- Confirm WDVA certification of qualifying service, Wisconsin residence history, qualifying rating/individual unemployability or survivor path.
- Confirm the primary Wisconsin dwelling and allowable tax amount. A qualifying renter must be required by a written landlord agreement to pay property taxes directly to the municipality and submit the agreement and payment proof; ordinary rent is not enough.
- Confirm acreage, ownership share where relevant, excluded assessments/interest/services/business portions, income-tax filing and continued survivor eligibility.
- This overview does not screen individual eligibility. Confirm who is applying, whose service or award establishes eligibility, and the chosen program’s ownership and other requirements.
- Confirm the current rule and application with the administering state, county, municipality, or assessor before making a financial decision.
Suggested application steps
- Open the linked official state agency and locate the current tax-relief instructions and form.
- Confirm local participation, the current tax year, filing deadline, and required VA certification with the administering office.
- Submit the official application and retain the agency's decision or receipt.

Limits and caveats
- This record is a verified starting point for a key statewide tax pathway, not an exhaustive inventory of every state, county, or municipal Veteran benefit.

- A screening result is educational and is not an eligibility or tax determination.
